Yesterday was a very tense day in the city of La Paz, Bolivia as thousands of protesting medical students were in a standoff with riot police. The students were involved in a march with COB (Bolivia's largest labor union) and began protesting in front of the Ministry of Health, near the Plaza Estudiante, when they started bombarding the police with fireworks, paintbombs, and rocks. The police responded by firing tear gas and in an attempt to disperse the angry crowd.
I tried to stay a safe distance away from the action, but as always ended up in the thick of the eye-watering tear gas, and spent my evening scraping red paint off all my gear.
